Train the plant. Don’t fight the vine.
A simple guide for helping Monstera, Pothos, Philodendron and other climbers grow upward with a coco-coir support.
1 · Choose the direction
Look for the main climbing stem and decide which side of the pot should become the plant’s vertical anchor.
2 · Place the pole
Insert the pole near the inner wall of the pot rather than directly through the root mass. Keep it stable and upright.
3 · Guide, don’t squeeze
Bring the main vine toward the pole and secure it loosely with a soft plant tie. The tie should guide the stem, not pinch it.
4 · Let aerial roots find structure
Position aerial roots close to the coir surface when practical. As the plant grows, they may begin using the support naturally.
5 · Extend as the plant rises
When the plant outgrows the first section, add the next support section instead of disturbing the plant just to replace the pole.
6 · Keep the light honest
A support pole will not fix poor light. Keep the plant in appropriate light for its species and rotate only when needed so the growth stays balanced.
